The Unpaid Internship Dilemma
40% of interns are unpaid. A problem that comes out of that is unpaid internships, which have harmful implications for students and for the design industry.
How might students help employers stay informed about the best practices of creating an internship?
OUR GOAL
Using data visualization to storytell best practices, educate designers on the requirements of an ethical internships, and advocate for design interns in a space built on learning and growth instead of shame or guilt.
BIG NUMBERS FOR BIG STATEMENTS
It’s hard to argue with the numbers. Our statements calling for more ethical internships + social responsibility are rooted in data.
01
PLAYFUL TAKE ON A HEAVY TOPIC
The decision tree is a fun way for employers to learn the requirements of an internship with lower stakes and room to make errors.
02
SHARING THE WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE
Learning doesn’t stop with our broadsheet. We end by highlighting existing resources that advocate for the fair treatment of students and empower employers to create successful internships.
03
Discoverable Online
With the internet at our fingertips, education is more accessible than ever. A digitized version of the decision tree empowers audiences without our physical broadsheet to learn.
Much Love!
Sending so much love to my teammate Felicia <3 When I look back on this project, I think fondly of our long nights +early mornings, endless typos, and hours of baking when we should've been designing.
